CÉLESTINS THEATER: FIRST “SENS INTERDITS” FESTIVAL

25 june 2009

The first "Sens Interdits" International Theater Festival organized by the Célestins Theater of Lyon and its partners will be held from September 17 to 26, 2009.

This first-time festival is focusing on issues of remembrance, identity and resistance, in particular on the European continent and in European cultures. The event will host artists whose unique approach leads them to deal with the past and the present, using the most artisanal tool ever created: the theater. This is drama of urgency, of necessity; theater that is profoundly political and yet distanced from any ideology or propaganda. Here, a whole generation denounces the distortion, concealing and negation of History, and enlightens their past so as to improve their actions in the present. Artists, confronted with war, religious conflicts and exile, use the stage to explore otherness and boundaries, diversity and individuality, tolerance and fanaticism.
