The second edition of the Lumière cinema festival, entirely devoted to the history of cinema, is open to all and will take place on 4-10 October 2010 across Greater Lyon. There will be 70 films shown over 170 screenings.
The opening event, including the ‘surprise' program, which has not yet been revealed, will take place in the Tony Garnier Concert Hall on 4 October at 8 pm. Tickets sales start tomorrow and will be priced at 10 euros. Some 5000 people attended the launch of the 2009 Lumière Festival.
During the festival, some of the screenings will be introduced by filmmakers, actors, writers and artists. The aim is to celebrate the history of cinema through a contemporary look at past works. There will also be a village set up in the Lumière Park during the day and another festive village will be set up on a barge boat for the evenings : The Platform.
The Prix Lumière 2010: Milos Forman
The grand finale of this festive week, is awarded to an important figure in cinema for their achievements and creations, and for the role they play in cinema's history. This year it will be awarded on 9 October. After Clint Eastwood, who received the award in 2009, American writer and director Milos Forman will collect this year's award.
